Render Your Heart...

RENDER YOUR HEART...Many of you are probably wondering what that could possibly mean. I heard a song on the radio by a Christian artist and in the lyrics he was saying to "rend your heart." I am sometimes intelligent, but I had NO idea as to what that could mean. Therefore, I went on a journey to find out what someone is DOING when they REND their hearts. Rend is another word for separation, for splitting, for ripping, for scratching...does NOT sound very pleasant does it? Personally, I picture a cat fight...literally or figuratively. :)

But what was he saying to split your heart from? Well...I could guess and talk about that later! I like what that the word render means something a little different...and that is where I want to start.

To render-to melt down-to give up-to yield-to submit-to reflect-to impart-to restore-to echo...

These synonyms may not seem like much at first, but on this little journey called life, I have discovered that we all, no matter what our faith, religious beliefs, ethnicity, or cultural background submit our inner most being or our hearts to something or perhaps to someone. We reflect something or someone. One of my favorites among the list of words is "to echo." I will tell you all (the few of you that get a hold of this crazy attempt to have a voice and possibly write somethiing that can even possibly make a difference in someone's life) later why it is one of my favorites...

My desire in writing on this blog (after spending several hours of my day on a computer for work) is to hopefully share things about life. A few things about me you will find, but I hope that in reading the posts that I do write, you will find something greater to look at...or to search for.

Join me on this attempted journey and let me know your thoughts...I hope to keep it up but we shall see what my commitment level is!

Blessings!

It would be easier if I knew more of the lyrics of the song because with so many meanings it could be anything. If he was singing about faith do you think he talks about rendering your heart to God? As to submit and stop fighting against him. A struggle I often find myself having each day. What does it mean to submit to God? Does it mean to spend hours at church each day? Does it mean to pray once or multiple times a day? Does it simply mean to Believe in Him? How would you define rendering your heart to the Lord Jess?

The song is Rend by Jimmy Needham. I think he is talking about how we have been covered in filth and shame and sin; however, if we break away from those things and have a broken heart for our sinful selves then we can better able come to Jesus. We do not have to be perfect to come to Jesus, we just have to be broken, so that He can heal us and save us from our sins. We do not "clean up" or heal our own wounds before finding Jesus. We find Him then we get cleaned up. Rending your heart I think means more like breaking it.

Rendering your heart on the other hand, is more like restoring it to God and letting Him restore it. Submitting it to God meaning that He is the first reason for living, where He goes and tells you to go-you go, where he loves and tells you to love-you love. There is no science or magical formula for submitting to God, only a desire to be obedient and to accept God's perfect love. We are not saved by how many times we pray or by the fact that we go to church twenty times a week, but our actions do manifest what is inside of us. If we truly submit our hearts to God, then we are able to act differently, thus breaking free from all the other things that become more important in our life. We take those things off of the throne and allow God to sit there. We all struggle at some point but it is a daily surrender for God and to God.

I think if we pray for a desire and for help in loving Him first and more and more, then He answers those prayers but not without some work from us; like spending time with Him, reading His Word and praying but also letting Him change how we spend our time, putting new desires in our hearts. Relinquishing control is a huge part of submission-meaning you don't try to control your own life or what parts of your self you give to God but you let Him have it all thus living through you and letting Him have control. It is a day to day thing-getting up and making a decision to seek Him first and then acting as if it were the last day to find Him.
